DriftCast Library is a publicly available archive of drifter simulations. By clicking on circles on the map, users can visualize potential dispersal over 28 days. Simulations begin on the first day of each month over a 28-year period (1993-2019). This information can be used to understand broad ocean connectivity. Oceanographic data layers show how the ocean conditions change each month.
Ocean modeling, cloud computing, and extensive NASA remote sensing datasets, are now making it possible to incorporate annual dispersal metrics into marine resource management. DriftCast marks a meaningful step towards making this a reality. At its core, DriftCast is a web-based dispersal software developed for fisheries managers. DriftCast Explorer allows managers to run their own dispersal simulations without needing experience with ocean modeling or access to high performance computers.
